Demelash’s farm is best described as a Garden coffee production system, with well-maintained agro-forestry practice and a mixed farming system. Throughout his farm the coffee trees grow under a very light shade from perennial shade trees with root crops amongst the plantation. His farm is well integrated with food crops which provide a great source of compost and income year-round.
Organic compost is the only source of nutrient that is used to fertilize both coffee trees and the other food crops on his farm – A rare and delightful fact.
The processing done by Demelash Oliye and his father is meticulous and quality focused. Dried for 18 days (not too long and definitely not too short) the coffee can smoothly reach the required moisture level, and this ensures a coffee that ages gracefully.
